Job Description:

We have one Permanent full-time position available in The Dalles. In addition, we have one Limited Duration full-time position available in John Day. The Limited Duration position is expected to last 24 months.

What will you do?  

You will provide on-the-ground and administrative process support to hazardous fuels treatment initiatives conducted under Federal Grant funded programs. You will be the liaison and provide technical support as needed with Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Farm Service Agency (FSA), US Forest Service (USFS), local Counties, Rural Fire Districts, and Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Service with Federal grants/programs.  You will give technical fuel and forest management advice to non-industrial private landowners. You will develop and maintain simple long and short-range project tracking systems and document practices using GIS and GPS tools, including writing and submission of grant proposals for continued funding sources.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

  • Two years of experience in forestry, wildland fire, fire prevention or related natural resource field AND a Bachelor’s degree in forestry, wildland fire, fire prevention or related natural resource field OR Three additional years of related experience. Note: A Master’s degree in any of the above disciplines will count towards one year of the required experience.

  • Proven experience as an excellent communicator who is honest, fair and inclusive among employees, partners and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.

  • Ability to develop proposals, write and administer grants for forest management and/or fuels treatment prescriptions.

  • Working knowledge of field technology (GIS, GPS, tablets) in a forestry setting.

  • Working knowledge of fire management, fire prevention and fire suppression techniques.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills including working with operators, landowners, and the general public in communicating technical information and prescriptive standards.

  • Ability to work as a project lead within a collaborative team setting.

  • Ability to work independently and be self-driven.

  • Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and emerging issues.

  • Ability to support the agency in fire suppression efforts in some capacity.
