The Gallatin River Task Force seeks a dynamic, adept, and creative Communications Manager to develop and manage comprehensive communication and outreach strategies consistent with the organization’s strategic plan. The Communications Manager will implement a range of activities to expand engagement, increase the organization’s visibility, and work collaboratively with staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, projectpartners, and other supporters.

RESPONSIBILITIES TASKS AND DUTIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform these essential duties satisfactorily:

Communications (70%):

  • Update, implement, and evaluate annual communications plan, seeking new and creative ways to engage and penetrate our market and greater community. Monitor and craft strategy for consistent, compelling voice and messaging of the organization
  • Manage the creation, distribution, and maintenance of new and established print and e-materials that are compelling and timely for our: newsletter, event PR & marketing, social media, website, blog, annual report, and press releases
  • Collaborate with development staff to design and implement effective strategies, messaging, and collateral to achieve fundraising goals
  • Collaborate with programmatic staff to develop strategies, messaging, and collateral for print and electronic materials to support programmatic goals
  • Establish and monitor benchmarks for measuring the growth and effectiveness of initiatives
  • Prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed
  • Identify media opportunities and implement campaigns around key programs and issues; develop and manage all media contacts, press releases and op-eds

Outreach (20%):

  • In collaboration with Executive Director, development, and programmatic staff develop an annual outreach plan to outline outreach events, goals, objectives, and outcome metrics.
  • Develop, oversee execution, and evaluate outreach events outlined in the outreach plan
  • Recruit and manage interns as needed

Fundraising (10%): 

Outside of developing communications materials for the Development team as listed above, the Communications Manager will be expected to

  • Assist with the Hooked on the Gallatin event planning, sponsor and auction item acquisition, and implementation
  • Actively research, apply for, and assure final deliverables for relevant grant opportunities

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 2-4 years of communications/marketing experience
  • Creative, dynamic leadership style with a positive attitude
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Experience cultivating and managing media relationships
  • Experience writing, editing, and proofreading
  • Experience communicating with and presenting to different targeted audiences
  • Experience cultivating and managing stakeholder relationships
  • Experience coordinating, implementing, and managing multiple projects
  • Experience in graphic design and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience with WordPress or other website creation software
  • Adept and creative on social media
  • Ability to enjoy and adapt to a flexible schedule in an organization that is continuing to grow and shift focus annually with relevant community and environmental issues

Preferred:

  • Photographic and video skills, editing skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Completes projects completely, satisfactorily, and in a timely manner
  • Strong work ethic, excellent time-management and organizational skills, detail-orientated and requiring minimal direction.
