This is an exciting and new opportunity to support Second Nature’s ongoing advocacy work, and to help advance those efforts, while also attaining policy and advocacy experience.  This part-time position is designed for a motivated self-starter with some climate and advocacy knowledge, who is excited to learn and advance that knowledge while being an advocate for Second Nature. This position will report to the Communications, Marketing & Policy Manager. 

This position is open to remote work anywhere in the United States, with slight preference for candidates near Washington, D.C. and/or Boston, Massachusetts.  

Position Responsibilities:

The Climate Policy Associate will be responsible for assisting with specific policy projects, advocacy-focused partnerships, preparing written products on a variety of topics, and working with the Communications, Marketing & Policy Manager to advance major advocacy initiatives and objectives. 

In this role, the responsibilities of the Climate Policy Associate will include but are not limited to: 

  • Conducting climate policy research and analysis in support of Second Nature’s advocacy goals and efforts. 
  • Supporting the Communications, Marketing & Policy Manager in the drafting of, and research for, Second Nature’s Monthly Policy Updates.
  • Assisting the Communications, Marketing & Policy Manager in the drafting of advocacy-related sign-on letters, statements, and more. 
  • Participating in, and provides logistical support for, advocacy-related meetings with Second Nature partners. 
  • Tracking, reporting on, and analyzing various climate-related legislative and regulatory actions on the local and state levels in Second Nature focus states, and on the federal level. 
  • Other policy- and advocacy-related tasks as identified. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, or related field is preferred, or has at least two years of experience in legislative and/or regulatory advocacy and policy work, or politics.
  • Experience and interest in climate-related policy and the higher education sector is preferred, however not required.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in tracking, analyzing, and researching policy and legislative initiatives.  
  • Has a commitment to racial and economic equity, environmental justice, and climate resilience. 
  • Ability to research and analyze complex issues and information, accurately summarize and draw conclusions of that information, make recommendations, and communicate the information to others in a clear way.
  • Comfortable working with technical experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders. 
  • Strong writing and editing skills and experience conveying information on complex issues both verbally and in writing. 
  • Proficient with word-processing, spreadsheet, research databases, e-mail applications, and online platforms.
  • Strong attention to details and accurate information.
  • Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, and proven ability to take initiative.  
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, be able to manage competing demands, be proactive, show resourcefulness, and adapt well to changing circumstances. 
  • Be a self-starter as well as team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a positive, professional attitude. 

 

Position Classification:

This is a part-time, salaried position and compensation will be $30,000 annually. This position is not eligible for benefits.
