Location:  Based out of Diamond Lake, Oregon. Please note: there is a cabin available for onsite living.

Anticipated Duration:  This is a temporary position from July 1, 2021 – October 1, 2021

Job Description: What you will do: This position involves the monitoring of both golden shiner and tui chub populations in Diamond Lake, evaluating trout diets and movement, and conducting creel surveys. Conduct beach seining, fyke-netting, trap netting, and cast netting surveys to collect data and to remove golden shiner and tui chub.  Entry of data collected from removal efforts. Conduct night electro-fishing to capture golden shiner and tui chub as well as collect data on trout. Maintain and operate a panel trap at the outlet of Diamond Lake to enumerate out-migrating trout as well as to remove golden shiners and tui chub.  Communicate findings with District staff weekly.

Position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day including most weekends and some night work. Position may be physically demanding.

Requirements/Requested Skills: Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience (e.g., creel surveys, identifying juvenile and adult fish species (especially cyprinids and salmonids), collecting and accurately recording field data, computer skills, powerboat operation, and customer service) and who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with this background.

This position requires a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license). For further information, access the Web site at www.boatoregon.com. If the selected applicant does not possess a card, s/he must obtain it before completion of the trial service period as a condition of continued employment.

Criminal Records/DMV Check

Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check. Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state certified driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist. Adverse background information may disqualify you from further consideration.
