This recruitment will be used to fill two full-time Bio Sciences Research Tech 2 positions for Oregon State University-Cascades. This position will be located in Bend, Oregon.

These are limited duration appointments expected to last approximately five months from the appointment begin date.

The Oregon State University HERS Lab is working with the National Park Service Upper Columbia Basin Inventory and Monitoring Network to hire two Biological Field/Research Technicians to support the Network’s sagebrush steppe vegetation monitoring program and other vegetation monitoring projects in several National Park units. This work will further the understanding of natural resource conditions in the Upper Columbia Basin Network and supports OSU’s research and outreach initiatives. Specific duties include conducting vegetation sampling within sagebrush steppe and forest habitats, preparing field equipment and supplies, developing technical reports that describe results of recent monitoring surveys, and coordinating camping and other logistics and safety planning.

Duties

75% Plan and conduct field surveys:
• Following established NPS planning documents, coordinate with hosting park units to prepare for field work schedules and conduct pre­field work safety planning.
• Field work will require the ability to confidently and consistently identify plants by sight (grasses, forbs, shrubs, and trees), and the ability to work independently with little direct supervision. Navigation and the use of GPS units is necessary.
• Field work will involve vegetation sampling in sagebrush steppe habitats and adjacent montane habitats. Participate in field crew training on data collection methods, plant identification, and field safety.

25% Data Management and summary:
• Compile, review, and edit field data records, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Assist NPS data management staff in quality control routines and data summaries.
