Position Summary
The Department of Environment and Sustainability at the University at Buffalo, an R1 institution, seeks to hire two ecologists and/or environmental scientists as tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professors beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year.
We are especially interested in researchers focused on urban ecology, aquatic systems, or the food-energy-water nexus, but will consider other research foci that consider coupled natural-human systems. Field, lab, modeling, computational, and life-cycle analytic approaches, with scales from local to global, are all of interest. It is essential that your research be transdisciplinary and directed towards solving environmental problems and creating sustainable futures.
Western New York is ideally positioned for the study of issues and processes over a gradient that includes rural, suburban and urban environments as well as two of the Great Lakes. The department is broadly based, with faculty ranging from the ecological and environmental sciences to the humanities, and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees including Sustainability Leadership, Environmental Geosciences, Environmental Studies, and Evolution, Ecology and Behavior.
Standard duties for academic-year (10-month) faculty include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars, advising and mentoring students, maintaining a strong research program, contributing to our in-development PhD in sustainability, and providing service to the Department and University. More information about the Department can be found at https://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/environment-sustainability.html< /a>
The Department of Environment and Sustainability is strongly committed to diversity within our community, and we especially welcome applications from persons of color, women, Indigenous Peoples, and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, persons with disabilities, veterans and others who contribute to the further diversification of ideas. The University at Buffalo is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and, in keeping with our commitment, welcomes all to apply including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
Located on territory of the Seneca Nation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, we are committed to providing an inclusive, accessible, and safe environment where everyone can learn and thrive.
