Salary- $94,248.00 – $126,744.00 Annually

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Forest Informatics section, with a team of 24 professional staff and a biennial budget of over $5M.
  • Serve as an constructive and contributing member of the Forest Resources Division leadership team and a positive and active leader for division staff as a whole
  • Lead section staff to do their best work in a healthy, collaborative work environment that encourages high performance while advancing equity, promoting inclusion, and affirming healthy work-life balance
  • Provide leadership for the development of agency policy with top and executive management, and the Board of Natural Resources
  • Maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication and good-faith collaboration
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams of experts to analyze and communicate the effects of existing and proposed department policy
  • Direct staff in the completion of state uplands program priorities for both forest and non-forest related programs. Create realistic timelines for projects and manage staff resources efficiently.
  • Oversee the development of strategic and tactical forest estate models adequate for the completion of sustainable harvest calculations and within-decade timber harvest planning
  • Develop and maintain State Lands data systems and applications to meet program needs, including the forest resources inventory system, state lands corporate GIS data layers, and Land Resource Manager (LRM)
  • Coordinate preparation of material for environmental review and the Board of Natural Resources with executive management, and peers, and staff.
  • Utilize project management tools consistence with agency and industry standards.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT project management, or natural resources with a technology focus OR 4 years of project management experience can substitute from education.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a self-directed role working on complex, multi-dimensional policy and project development.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing wide area IT and/or natural resources projects.
  • The incumbent in this position is required to travel. The position requires travel about 5-10 % of the time for field visits and to attend meetings.

Our ideal candidate will also have the qualifications listed below:

  • Masters of Information Systems, or natural resource management.
  • A thorough understanding of state lands business and in particular the forest management regimes and workflows.
  • Expert knowledge in forest biology, silviculture, forest biometrics, statistical sampling, or statistical estimation.
