Position Description: Mid-Columbia Fisheries (MCF) seeks two enthusiastic and experienced aquatic restoration professionals to fill Project Manager positions with our dynamic non-profit organization in south-central Washington State.  Work will occur throughout the Yakima River Basin under the supervision of the Yakima Basin Program Director.

The positions will focus on developing and implementing on-the-ground salmon habitat projects in the Yakima River and its tributaries.  Other duties may include managing assessments or data collection work, building community support for salmon recovery, and supporting bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) recovery.

We anticipate hiring one position to work in the upper and mid Yakima Valley and one position to work in the mid and lower Yakima Valley.  These positions are expected to begin in May or June 2021. Both positions have a 90-day probationary period.

MCF offers a flexible work environment. Full-time work is available.  MCF is also open to hiring the right candidate who prefers to work less than full time.  MCF has an office in Ellensburg.  Currently all of our year-round staff primarily work from home. We are open to discussions about work location with successful candidates.  Successful candidates must reside in the Yakima Basin.

Pay & Benefits:  Pay range is $48,000 – $70,000 per year depending on experience.  The positions are compensated hourly. Mid-Columbia Fisheries offers medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.  A retirement plan with 3% employer matching contributions is available after the first year of employment.

Work: Project Managers will work independently and with a variety of partners to develop and implement grant-funded restoration projects and programs that support MCF’s mission and implement actions identified in salmon, steelhead and bull trout recovery plans. Project Managers oversee multiple projects and programs.

Develop projects

• Landowner outreach, landowner meetings, site visits, and site assessments
• Develop and coordinate partner involvement in projects
• Develop project materials such as maps, site photos, initial site plans, and cost estimates
• Research and identify funding opportunities; prepare grant applications

Implement projects

• Manage multiple projects and programs at different phases of development and implementation
• Apply for, secure, and manage project permits and permissions
• Prepare bid packages, solicitations, and agreements for consultants and construction contractors
• Manage consultant and contractor work, including construction oversight
• Develop and implement monitoring plans

Management

• Manage grant and project budgets and grant deliverables and reporting
• Project managers are likely to supervise volunteers, interns, field crews, or other staff

Required Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

• Have expertise in and passion for issues related to salmon recovery, watershed restoration, and community engagement. Expertise can be demonstrated by an advanced degree in fisheries, hydrology, stream ecology, geomorphology, or related, and by professional expertise with work similar to that described above;
• Be able and willing to perform all aspects of the work;
• Be dependable, self-motivated, well-organized, and able to work independently;
• Have excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders, partners, landowners, and colleagues.
• Be able to manage multiple projects with dynamic schedules and priorities; be flexible to changes in prioritization of work;
• Possess a valid driver’s license, with a relatively clean driving record, and the ability to safely operate MCF vehicles;
• Pass a criminal background check needed to work with minors on occasional education projects;
• Have competency with Microsoft office programs. ArcGIS desktop skills preferred, but not required.
• Experience evaluating and interpreting engineering design plans, construction drawings and results of hydraulic modelling would be helpful but is not required.
