Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Performs skilled operational duties and office management processes and is the direct assistant to the WSU Extension Director in all activities of the WSU Extension Office. Duties to include office management, answering and researching community questions in all areas, assist in preparing financial and technical reports; create fact sheets, mailings, and public outreach information; document grant and contract activities; coordinate Master Gardener and Food Safety/Preservation Programs; and communicate with elected officials,
local/regional authorities, and agencies, as well as various interest groups. This position assists in budget preparation and monitoring during the year, vouchering all invoices and maintaining records.
Conducts administrative business as required in the absence of the Extension Director. Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality and possess superior volunteer management and human relations skills. Work is performed independently under the general guidance of the Extension Director who delegates responsibility and reviews work for quality, accuracy and thoroughness of service provided.

Working Conditions: Work is most often performed in an office setting. However, travel to events, fairs and research sites outside the office will be necessary as well as some out-of-town meetings. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate personal computers and other peripherals required. Ability to lift and carry twenty-five to thirty (25-30) pounds. Sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate effectively verbally. Ability to drive an automobile, fly in an airplane and travel as required. Attendance at meetings, events, and workshops outside of regular work hours is required.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and three (3) years of relevant experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Relevant education and experience include the areas of agriculture, agronomy, animal sciences, horticulture, entomology, biology, science, education, youth development, family and consumer science, human development, or related field.
