Position Description

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a graduate intern to learn about and help support the Trees for Seattle Program. The Trees for Seattle program is an urban forestry outreach and engagement program that supports the City and SPU’s goals to increase canopy cover, improve human health and reduce storm water runoff, among other benefits. The program engages the public through the Tree Ambassador program, Trees for Neighborhoods residential planting program, and various ongoing social media and other communication channels.

Learning objectives include but are not limited to:

  • Gain a good understanding of issues involved in volunteer and event management, and public outreach
  • Strengthen skills in urban forest restoration and invasive species management
  • Learn how municipal government operates and how government can engage the public in issues
  • Gain a firm grounding in urban forestry at the municipal level, especially in the private residential sector.
