The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) educates youth and adults about maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. Through our popular summer day camp, children enjoy playing in the woods and water, discovering more about our local maritime heritage, and become inspired environmental stewards. AMM seeks contractual interns for its summer camp. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about leading youth, possess a love for the outdoors, and have prior summer camp and/or environmental education experience. Successful applicants will be organized, motivated, responsible, and ready to have fun!

AMM summer camp runs from June 21st through September 3rd. Interns will work 40 hours a week, from 8:30-4:30pm M-F. Interns will earn a $2500 stipend for the 10 week program.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Supervise group of up to 18 campers with a team of 2-3 counselors
  • Plan and lead environmental lessons as needed
  • Organize and lead nature exploration, games, and other recreation activities
  • Assist and supervise campers while kayaking. ACA Level 1 kayak training available, if interested
  • Observe environmental education programs led by teachers and Camp Director and assist
  • Assist with aquarium and animal care
  • Attend professional development “shadowing” experiences

Intern Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in college or recent college graduate
  • Strong interest in teaching and environmental education
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, flexible, overall positive attitude, and willingness to work outside in summer conditions
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with children and adults
  • Available to work at least 10 weeks over the summer
  • Preferred – teaching experience and/or environmental studies background
