Position Description:
The Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT) Transit and Mobility Division is seeking an undergraduate or graduate-level intern to support the New Mobility Team. This position will focus support on the Shared Mobility programs (Bike, Scooter, and Car Share) as well as other initiatives as they arise. The New Mobility Team’s objectives include:  Addressing the climate emergency by advancing transportation electrification and low-carbon travel options towards aggressive emissions reduction. Expanding new and improving existing mobility options for historically and currently disinvested communities and individuals. Implementing proactive strategy, policy, and pilots for emerging mobility services and innovative technology and data solutions to prepare the department for the future of transportation.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • 40% – Micromobility Operations Support, including field audits gathering data on bike and scooter parking and maintenance performance.

  • 30% – Outreach and Education efforts supporting shared micromobility (tabling at community events).

  • 30% – Other Associated Duties (research, policy support, website editing, data analysis) supporting the New Mobility Team.

 

Qualifications

Education:
Open to all undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year educational program and graduate students who are enrolled in an accredited educational program. 

Preferred Areas of Study: 
Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Business, Marketing, Public Administration or related areas of study.

Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship. 
Graduate students 
will need to maintain a 3.0 GPA or above throughout the internship. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent research, organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work with diverse communities (low-income, communities of color, and people with disabilities)
  • Ability to conduct audit work in all weather conditions
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience designing and performing innovative, equity focused outreach work, especially with diverse communities (low-income, communities of color, and people with disabilities).
  • Experience or education in transportation planning and/or emerging mobility policy.
  • Multi-language proficiency.

Additional Information Section 

Start/End Dates: Late June-Early July 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Schedule: Intern will work up-to 20 hours/weeks while school is in session. Up-to 40 hours/week during school breaks. Work hours can be scheduled between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.  May work weekends. May work evenings.

Salary: 
Undergraduate students will be paid $19.97 – $19.97/hour.
Graduate students will be paid $23.40 – $23.40/hour.
