Salary- $17.24 – $20.32 Hourly

Duties

  • Assist in basic laboratory support in the decontamination room and media room by: autoclaves and sterilizes lab materials, cleans glassware and utensils, mops floors, cleans and disinfects equipment, remove trash and recycling, prepare media, reagents and solutions for testing.
  • Assists in a variety of sample collection, sample check-in, sample set-up, testing, data entry and analysis, QA/QC support or research tasks.
  • Isolate and make cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms in prescribed media, controlling moisture, aeration, temperature and nutrition.
  • Perform tests on milk, food and the other samples sent to our lab to detect harmful microorganisms and to obtain information about sources of contamination.
  • Examine physiological, morphological, and cultural characteristics, using microscope, to identify and classify microorganisms in specimens.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position is required to work in a laboratory setting, which involves long period (multiple hours) of standing and repetitive hand motions while perform the task. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able and willing to work in a laboratory requiring appropriate sanitation and bio-safety 2 practices as the laboratory works with food-borne pathogens.
  • Be able and willing to work during food/feed recalls, emergency or surge situations which may involve extended work hours or weekend work.

Qualifications

Desired:

  • Successful completion of at least four semesters or six quarters of clinical, chemical, or public health related coursework at an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of clinical, chemical, public health or laboratory experience.
  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) or similar database experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Valid  Driver’s License
