Our internship programs seek to engage ethnically and racially diverse young professionals in natural resource careers. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. All interns must be fully vaccinated for covid-19 prior to the start of their internship.

Project description
We’re looking for an enthusiastic intern to engage visitors and communities in the conservation of threatened species. This position will focus on cultivating stewardship of coastal seabirds and shorebirds within Oregon by increasing the public’s understanding of their role in sensitive seabird and shorebird conservation at US Forest sites, Oregon State Parks, and other locations. The intern will work closely with wildlife specialists and collaborate with a network of professionals and community partners in Oregon’s Central Coast. Prior knowledge of bird conservation is not necessary, but a willingness to learn is required.  The successful applicant will have an enthusiasm for interacting with people of all ages. This is a great opportunity for career shadowing and hands-on experience in the fields of wildlife biology and environmental education.

Project Goals include:

  • Removing anthropogenic food sources that attract wildlife
  • Encouraging the public to reduce litter
  • Reaching out to underrepresented communities to engage in educational programs
  • Increasing public awareness of ocean and forage fish conservation

Duties: The intern will receive training on the resources, species, and habitats of the Siuslaw National Forest and Oregon Coast. Other activities will include:

  • Researching, developing, and delivering formal presentations
  • Assisting staff in ongoing projects
  • Participating in outreach at community events
  • Organizing and leading citizen science project
