Responsibilities:

  • Conducting trail assessments, including documentation, and assist with trail construction, reconstruction and maintenance projects.
  • Assist in the development of outreach messages about DNR lands for the public and develop and install signage.
  • Assist the district’s recreation manager and trails steward with documents such as permits, environmental analyses and plans for various infrastructure projects.
  • Assisting with the coordination and supervision of Washington Conservation Corps crews on various work projects.
  • Conducting day-to-day maintenance of recreation areas and facilities.
  • Work with volunteers and user groups to make campgrounds, day-use areas and trails in the district a recreation destination that is safe, clean and fun
  • Interact with the public at recreation areas and provide them with recommendations, explain policies and rules, and be able to articulate agency goals and mission.

Required Qualifications: 

  • A full-time student (12+ credits/quarter) majoring in recreation management or related field and will be returning to school in a following quarter/semester.
  • Physically able to work alone or as part of a team in undeveloped, remote or back-country landscapes and terrain in all weather conditions.
  • A valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of hire.

  • GPS/GIS Mapping
  • Beginning knowledge of theory, policy, principles, and practices of the Natural Resources.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Adobe, and ArcGIS skills
  • Basic written and oral communication skills
  • Candidates should have work or recreational experience driving on logging roads.
