SERNW Student Grants 2026 Now Open

Are you a graduate student or upper-level undergraduate conducting research on ecological restoration in Northwest natural systems—or do you know someone who is?

SERNW is offering up to three student research grants of up to $3,000 to support ecological restoration projects across the Pacific Northwest eco‑region (WA, OR, AK, MT, ID, Northern CA).

About Society for Ecological Restoration Northwest Chapter

Founded as a non-profit in 1993, the Society for Ecological Restoration Northwest Chapter (SERNW) is a dynamic interactive professional society dedicated to the art and science of restoration. Members of SERNW are actively protecting and restoring ecosystems throughout the Cascadia bioregion which includes Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Northern California. We provide a unique opportunity for members to coordinate restoration efforts and gain technical skills specific to Pacific Northwest ecosystems.

Application Process

Please submit electronically using the 2026 Application Form. Include:

  1. Cover page with project title, name, mailing address, email, study system and location, institution, SER membership status, and requested funding amount.
  2. Research proposal (3–4 pages, single-spaced, excluding references) with:
    • Abstract (<250 words)
    • Introduction, research questions, and objectives
    • Methods, expected results, and significance
    • Literature cited
    • Tables/figures embedded in text
    • Clear explanation of how your research supports restoration
  3. Project timetable
  4. Budget and justification, including research partners if applicable
  5. CV (1–2 pages)
  6. Unofficial university transcripts

File submission guidelines:

  • Begin each filename with your last name
  • Use standard file types (doc, docx, rtf, odt, pdf)

Note: If you received an SER NW Student Grant in the prior calendar year, please wait one year before reapplying.
