POSITION TITLE: Greater Pacific Northwest Regional Fellow
ABOUT CCL: Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization focused on national policies to address climate change. Our organization is volunteer based and organized by congressional districts.  CCL staff train and support volunteers to build relationships with elected officials and the media to empower their own local communities, generate the political will for fair, effective climate solutions in line with science and political viability.  CCL prides itself in its unique approach to educating elected officials on climate action, particularly bipartisan action.  We aim to build upon shared values rather than partisan divides, and empowering our supporters to work in keeping with the concerns of their local communities. BENEFITS : This fellowship offers a stipend, but no employee benefits. Fellowships at staff locations are supervised and trained by CCL/CCE staff. We do not suggest relocating for this fellowship and we do not provide any housing or relocation assistance. Fellows receive: 

  • The opportunity to earn a Certificate of Completion in climate advocacy 
  • Free registration to the Citizens’ Climate International Conference 
  • Academic credit is possible with approval from the student’s academic advisor

POSITION REPORTS TO: Clara Fang, Student Engagement Director

SCHEDULE/TIME COMMITMENT: 8 hours a week for one calendar year 

LOCATION: The job will be performed remotely but intern should be living in or attending school in one of the Northwest states: Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii

  

PAYMENT: $1,000

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Training 

Working with Student Groups (with Clara Fang) 

  • Conduct outreach to higher education institutions about climate opportunities. 
  • Research college and university contacts.
  • Recruit Campus Leaders and students to join CCL.
    • Interview Campus Leader applicants. 
    • Train and support up to 10 Campus Leaders to start climate campaigns or CCL chapters. 
    • Hold semi-weekly calls with Campus Leaders. 
    • Attend regional fellow semi-weekly calls. 
  • Update volunteer information in membership database. 
  • Other tasks as needed.

    Advocacy 

    • Write and submit LTEs to local publications.
    • Make appointments with members of Congress.
    • Prepare materials for lobby meetings. 
    • Attend a lobby meeting with a local chapter. 
    • Engage on social media with members of Congress.  

    Regional Conference 

    • Assist with programming and speaker arrangements. 
    • Assist with venue and logistics. 
    • Create promotional materials. 
    • Conduct outreach to recruit students to attend the conference. 
    • Preparing resource materials before and share during the Conference.
    • Welcoming attendees and answering questions.
    • Support  attendees in connecting to the sessions they choose. 
    • Attend breakout sessions as a co-host, which includes being the point of contact between the speaker(s) and the Conference Team, making materials available, helping with the Question & Answer period, and recording the number of attendees in each session. 

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
    • Applicant must reside or be enrolled in a college/university in one of the Northwest states: Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii
    • Prior leadership experience
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Passion for environmental advocacy and social change
    • Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines
      • An independent self starter who is able to devise the steps necessary to accomplish a given goal
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google suite, email, social media
