We will explore the transition from traditional village into modern tribal government, examining many elements of tradition and culture that tribes have incorporated into their modern governments and community behavior and decision-making.

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM Legal Impacts |
We’ll examine selected legal impacts to the government-to-government relationships with the federally recognized tribes, especially concerning how those impacts may still affect our relationship building today.

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Tribal Sovereignty |
This portion of our day considers the differences that reflect what tribal sovereignty is and isn’t. We will dispel some of the myths and build upon the current knowledge base of participants.

3:00 PM – 4:30 PM Tribal Governments |
We’ll wrap up the day looking more directly at the tribal governments themselves – protocol, decision-making, election processes and suggestions for improving efforts in relationship building.
