Conversation, workshops, and networking opportunities empower participants to advance environmental and social justice performance. Solutions shared at the conference will be tailored for implementation in our unique political, social, economic and environmental climate.

For the safety of all attendees WOHESC currently plans to require all in-person participants to be fully vaccinated. Masks will also be required at all times during the event, with the exception of meals. Upon arrival, attendees will be required to provide proof of vaccination. WOHESC takes the safety of its exhibitors, sponsors, partners, speakers, and attendees very seriously. As the situation with COVID-19 is changing daily, we are closely monitoring the response by healthcare and government officials so we can ensure the protection of all our stakeholders. We will continue to update our sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees as changes are made. Learn more about our COVID-19 policies here.

WOHESC Social Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
The organizers of the Washington Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) recognize the interconnection of environmental and social justice problems and the societal structures that cause them both. We know that sustainability efforts to date have often ignored the voices of certain stakeholders and built on existing inequalities. The WOHESC program aims to do better by presenting sustainability thoughts, research, and initiatives that focus on just and equitable economies, healthy and clean environments, and inclusive and fair societies. Furthermore, we are mindful of the fact that the most vulnerable and marginalized people will experience the worst effects of a changing climate, both globally and in the US. We assert that creating a more just and equitable world is fundamental to tackling sustainability issues. Accordingly, we strive to weave diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout conference thematic elements, speakers, and attendees in order to uplift the perspectives of those working at the intersections of social justice and environmentalism in order to create a more sustainable world for everyone.

It is important to us that our conference include equity and diversity across all groups including race, color, religion, national origin, political affiliation or belief, disability, age, gender identity, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, institution, or industry background. Practically speaking, this means that we prioritize diverse representation in our keynote, plenary, and panel presenters; design conference themes, tours, and panels that deepen conversations and uplift work related to social justice; and weigh each independent submission’s depth of engagement with justice and equity. Last, we adopt a willingness to be constantly learning and listening, knowing that we will be imperfect even as we work to tackle the urgent and overlapping crises of our time.

Our Program Committee is actively working to recruit diverse leadership perspectives to participate, attend and provide input on our conference program. We continue to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion through conference thematic elements, speakers, partners and attendees and aim to center BIPOC voices in all the work that we do as a conference. We have an open call to BIPOC and diverse voices to advise and/or provide input. If you are interested in being involved in our Program Committee please email info@wohesc.org with more information about yourself and how you would like to be involved.
