I wanted to remind and extend an invitation for you to join us in kicking off our first in-person event of the year for the School Learning Garden Network.

This year, we are partnering with our friends with the Seattle Public Utilities’ Rain Wise Program.  Plan to join us Saturday May 15th from 9:30 am to 12 pm at Emerson Elementary School. (9709 60th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98118.) View our welcome back video.

We will begin the session promptly at 9:30 am with a 30 site-assessment guided by Rain Wise educators. Join us to learn what goes into planning and preparing for a rain garden or cistern at your school. This presentation will be recorded and available online. Following the discussion, volunteers can participate in a spring clean-up of the school learning garden.  There are raised beds to weed, pathways to mulch, and garden boxes to repair.  There will be knowledgeable horticulturists on hand to help guide volunteers on best-practices, noxious weed control, and more while we prepare the garden for student use. Tools and gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite.

This event is limited to 15  volunteers, masked and physically distanced, with additional COVID 19 safety protocols in place. The school will be closed for the event.  Participants may access restrooms at the neighboring parks facilities.  If sign-ups for the event exceed 15 people, we will open another afternoon session from 1-3 pm to accommodate as many interested community members as possible. Please indicate your availability for a possible afternoon session when you register.

All interested volunteers of all ages must register for the event. Please RSVP to SelfHelpProjects@seattleschools.org
