PNW-to-Denmark
Wastewater Symbiosis Study Tour

June 15-21, 2025

CSI will host a weeklong Wastewater Symbiosis Study Tour in Denmark for public and private wastewater leaders from the Pacific Northwest this June.

Industrial symbiosis (IS), pioneered in Denmark, is a ground-breaking approach to infrastructure and economic development, where one facility’s waste streams – energy, water, materials – become valuable resources for other businesses. Industrial symbiosis optimizes resource use to reduce waste, enhance environmental outcomes, and strengthen local economies.

Denmark is showing how wastewater plants can serve as great platforms for local IS innovation, because they are rich in some of the key ingredients for symbiosis:  thermal energy, water, and organics.

The study tour will bring two dozen PNW wastewater leaders – the people who manage, operate, design and regulate our region’s wastewater systems – to Denmark to see wastewater symbiosis in action.

Applications are being accepted now until March 24th!

This study tour is building on the successes of the first of its kind PNW-to-Denmark Wastewater Symbiosis Study Tour in September 2024.
