Join local historian Dr. Josh Cerretti for “Bellingham History from Below” highlighting the historical perspectives of marginalized people.

About this Event

Presented by the League of Women Voters of Bellingham/Whatcom County and the Ralph Munro Institute for Civic Education, this virtual history walking tour by local historian Josh Cerretti will take you from the arrival of the first non-Native settlers on Coast Salish land in the 1850s through the exclusion of Asian Americans and African Americans in Bellingham in the 20th century and the ongoing struggle for social justice in the 21st. You’ve heard the stories of the men whose names adorn buildings and streets, now you can learn about “Bellingham History from Below.”

Since 2016, Cerretti has been giving tours of downtown Bellingham that highlight the perspectives of people who were marginalized and excluded from official histories and the city itself.

Attendees will be invited to participate in a Q & A session following the video tour. This event was made possible by generous contributions from members of our community.

Registration to this program is free but required. Participants will receive an email confirmation with the Zoom login info once they sign up. Support for this digital program provided by Art Bridges.
