Discover Your Northwest, in partnership with Olympic National Forest, is seeking to host several seasonal Recreation Technician positions for summer 2026. These positions are critical to keeping our national forests open, safe, and accessible to the public. Individuals will be employees of Discover Your Northwest, but work and live in spectacular Olympic National Forest.
Duty locations include:
- Hoodsport, WA (2 positions)
- Quilcene, WA (2 positions)
- Forks, WA (1 position)
Job Duties
- Performs recreation facility maintenance at trailheads, campgrounds, or other developed sites. Assures recreation sites and areas are properly operated and maintained, including cleaning toilet facilities, garbage collection, and maintenance/repair of recreation facilities.
- Collects recreation fees and provides information on fee compliance, rules, and regulations of the sites.
- Installs and maintains information boards and signs.
- Cleans roadside and/or backcountry dispersed sites, naturalizes sites where necessary to control use and prevent resource damage.
- Assists with visitor information services. Provides detailed information about recreation opportunities to Forest visitors and explains Forest Service rules and regulations
- Coordinates and works with volunteers and partners; including supporting campground hosts.
- Performs trail maintenance and/or wilderness patrols.
Position Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather for long durations.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to drive large vehicles on gravel forest roads with varying conditions.
- Ability to hike long distances over rough terrain while carrying gear.
- Demonstrates a safe, professional, strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills, experience working in a team setting and independently
- Customer service experience
- Basic maintenance or carpentry skills
- Experience using hand tools and power tools
Other Notes
- 40 hours/week, May-October (flexible dates available)
- Paid time off, accrued at 4 hours every 2 weeks
- Shared housing may be available in Hoodsport and Quilcene. Seeking a local hire for the Forks position.
