WSDOT’s yearly Summer Wetland Ecology and Monitoring Internship is officially accepting applicants! This position is a summer internship offered specifically to Evergreen students during the summer quarter of 2026, and several positions are open. MES students are highly encouraged to apply and receive credits toward their degree, and the position is open to all admitted students whether they are incoming, current, or on extension.

Position Type: SUMMER INTERNSHIP

Compensation: $5,400.00 STIPEND FOR THE ELEVEN-WEEK WORK EXPERIENCE

Active Dates: (JUNE 22 -SEPTEMBER 3)

Location: OLYMPIA, WA

Title: WETLAND ECOLOGY AND MONITORING TECHNIQUES INTERNSHIP WITH DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Description: This internship program provides hands-on field experience collecting environmental data gathered from WSDOT wetland compensatory mitigation sites. We use quantitative and qualitative monitoring methods to conduct vegetation surveys. Most field activities focus on vegetation sampling and plant identification. We include other activities such as evaluating soils, hydrology, and wildlife as time allows.

Expectations and Prerequisites:

  • Must commit to participating in both field and instructional activities Monday – Thursday for both summer sessions.
  • We provide transportation to monitoring sites, but we expect interns to meet us in Olympia each morning.
  • Must enroll in both summer sessions at The Evergreen State College and make payment of appropriate tuition. Please see Evergreen’s website for information regarding tuition rates.
