The UW Botanic Gardens Environmental Programs Steward will coordinate adult environmental education classes on topics related to environmental stewardship, sustainable practices, and wellness. They will also participate in the development of and execution of a docent program in the Washington Park Arboretum.

Tasks:

  • Recruit and manage student and community volunteers
  • Research data to develop and implement an educational programming plan
  • Conduct or assist with virtual and in-person environmental education programs for adult audiences that encourage sustainable practices, sound environmental stewardship, and wellness. Most programs are single-session classes lasting 1-3 hours.
  • Support the development and management of docent stations in the Washington Park Arboretum (requires one, 3.5 hour shift on weekends September – November and March-June)
  • Organize and maintain program supplies and equipment
  • Participate fully in staff meetings and professional development opportunities
  • Perform administrative tasks directly related to volunteer management, evaluations, and class support
  • Remote options as needed
