Play a fundamental role in maintaining Mass Marking and Coded-Wire Tagging fleet, which is essential for sustainable fisheries, hatchery reform, and native fish conservation. 

By providing critical maintenance support, the role enhances operational efficiency, reduces costs, and minimizes reliance on external vendors.

Provide general mechanical repair to water pumps, fish pumps, marking trailers, and portable generators.

Duties

 

Here is what you will be doing,

Provide critical and timely general maintenance support for the marking and tagging program: 

  • General mechanical repair to water pumps, fish pumps, marking trailers, and portable generators.
  • General electrical repairs to equipment up to 240V and 100AMP.
  • General plumping repairs, and fabrication and welding (primarily aluminum and steel).
  • Act as liaison between hatcheries and Capital Asset Management Program (CAMP) for marking related maintenance requests.
  • Deliver parts and supplies to active marking and/or tagging projects as needed.
  • Purchase tools, supplies, and equipment as needed for fabrication and repairs.

 

Perform maintenance on highly technical specialized equipment for AutoFish Systems: 

  • Order and replace computer and robotic components including equipment such as motherboards, small electrical motors, and pneumatic components.
  • Track AutoFish fleet software versions, upgrades and maintenance requests/needs.
  • Maintain operational understanding and aptitude of the AutoFish System.
  • Act as liaison between Northwest Marine Technology (NMT) and WDFW for the design and improvement of AutoFish Systems and parts requests.

 

Serve on the unit Safety Team:

  • Work with leadership staff, hatchery staff and contract labor to identify and correct any safety issues.

Maintain maintenance database:

  • Develop expenditure reports, cost estimates of repairs, and budget requests.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Various working environments such as Automated/Manual mass marking and coded wire tag (CWT) mobile wet lab, hatcheries and an office setting. 
    • Work in inclement weather conditions, lift or move 60 pounds commonly (items may include flgyt pumps, large four (4) gauge – 240V power cords, and discharge hoses). Ability to work around hatchery ponds, and catwalks over hatchery ponds. 
    • Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
  • Schedule:
    • Typically, Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. 
    • Considerable overtime and possible shift work mainly in the spring.   
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Extensive travel and driving required – Up to six (6) months per year, and being away from home for 4-5 days a week with overnight stays.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Electric hand tools, basic hand tools, welders, fish pumps, water pumps, and generators.
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Interact with Biologists, Hatchery personnel, Tribal Staff, and the public.

 

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Graduation or GED.

 

AND

 

  • Four (4) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, and repair work.

Experience: 

  • Working with hand tools for general repairs to mechanical devices.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • Valid Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following: 

  • Knowledge of Automated and Manual Coded Wire Tagging (CWT)/Mass Marking mobile wet labs.
