We have a Forest Practices Permit Technician (NRT3) position available at the Northeast Region office in Colville that could be filled by someone like you.    
                                                                                                                                                   
This full-time permanent position supports the Department of Natural Resource (DNR) Forest Practices Program. It is a point of contact for the public regarding Forest Practices Applications/Notifications (FPA/N) and associated documents. This position assists the public by answering questions and assisting landowners in completing Forest Practices Applications and how RCWs, WACs, and other guidance apply to their proposal.


 

Duties

Responsibilities:
People skills and a good customer service attitude are invaluable in this position. The Forest Practices Permit Tech is the first point of contact in the Forest Practices office for the public either at our Forest Practices walk-up window or through email inquiries or inquiries by telephone. This position is responsible for providing Forest Practices information, guidance, and assistance to FPA/N applicants and how the rules apply to a landowner’s project, as well as acting as the initial contact either to resolve applicant disagreements/concerns or to forward concerns to the appropriate DNR Staff.  

Basic office and organization skills and a detail-oriented nature are just as important as people skills. The Forest Practices Permit Tech is responsible for:

  • Review submitted FPA/Ns and other associated documents for accuracy, and to work with the applicant to ensure the FPA/N and other documents are complete.
  • Completing risk assessment for each FPA/N, processing FPA/Ns within rule-mandated timelines.
  • Keeping track of where multiple FPA/Ns are in the application process.
  • Communicating concerns to fellow Forest Practices staff members and others as appropriate.




 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Four (4) years of experience in a business environment with a strong emphasis on customer service;
    OR a combination of experience and education.
  • Experience using software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Adobe products.
  • Experience organizing, prioritizing, and working within tight schedules and timelines with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, and regulations, and public records retention and requests are followed.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to clearly articulate information to a variety of audiences.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:
  • The primary work environment is in an office setting with the possibility of extended periods of sitting or standing. There is occasional time outdoors with field foresters or other staff in rugged settings. The assigned duty station is the Northeast Region Headquarters Office in Colville, WA.
  • The position requires occasional travel to meetings. Some overnight stays may be required. The employee is eligible for per diem and lodging costs when in travel status, except when provided by the agency.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the Forest Practices Act and associated rules, and relationships to other environmental laws, policies, procedures, and agency practices.
  • One (1) or more years of experience using ArcGIS or similar mapping tools including reading and interpreting legal descriptions, topography, and aerial photos.
  • Experience in interpreting and explaining complex rules and laws.
  • Experience with working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Department of Natural Resources programs, operations, and software including FPARS, FPAMT, SharePoint, and FPRAM.
