Description

Assist the Water Quality Manager with managing the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe’s water quality program including conducting water quality monitoring, maintaining monitoring equipment, managing data, reporting to include some writing, engaging community outreach, water quality and habitat project development, and reviewing local and regional policies and projects that may affect water quality and aquatic resources. The Water Quality Program Assistant also attends Tribe, community, and industry meetings as directed.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Collect a variety of samples and data following standard operating procedures, using a variety of instruments and equipment.
  • Schedule and conduct field work. Assist in field investigations to assess water quality, identify sources of pollution, and evaluate environmental conditions.
  • Install, operate, maintain, calibrate, and make basic repairs to sampling equipment.
  • Help review project database for completeness, appropriateness, and identification of anomalies.
  • Coordinate sampling and analysis on small projects on short- and long-term bases.
  • Perform field water quality analyses such as pH, conductivity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, redox (oxygen reduction) potential and turbidity.
  • Create, curate, and deliver education and outreach materials related to water quality and tribal values.
  • Organize events, volunteer opportunities, and collaborate with the Childcare Development Center to create hands-on learning experiences related to water quality.

 

Additional Duties:

  • Provide data reports. 
  • Use computer software to perform data entry and calculations and track data in the database.
  • Participate in daily and monthly scheduling of fieldwork and sample deliveries.
  • Help prepare work plans and updates.

Requirements
  • Proficient with computers and general office equipment. 
  • Experience with ArcGIS desirable. 
  • Must be able to learn proprietary software for monitoring equipment and data transfer.
  • Excellent communication skills both in written and verbal form. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations in a courteous, helpful, and clear manner.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Ability to monitor and prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Native cultures, history, and traditions preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use tact and discretion.

 

Education & Experience:

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resource management, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university required.

Experience:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs required. 
  • Previous related work experience in water quality is preferred.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid unrestricted Washington State driver’s license required. Qualified driving record required.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation. 
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe’s Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.

Work Environment:

The work environment includes an office environment in a controlled atmosphere building. Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be possible in accordance with the Tribe’s Telecommuting Policy.
