Description

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES STATEWIDE

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is excited to offer an immersive and educational internship program that will provide aspiring professionals with a unique opportunity to contribute to the protection and sustainability of Washington’s diverse ecosystems.

 

Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and diverse projects, interns will gain a deep understanding of the complexities of various roles while contributing to the state’s efforts to protect its unique biodiversity. Join us in our mission to safeguard Washington’s wildlife and habitats for future generations.

 

We anticipate having internship opportunities in the following programs: 

Capital & Asset Management Program (CAMP)
Communications and Public Engagement (CAPE)
Financial Services
Fish/Hatcheries
Habitat
Human Resources
Information Technology
Wildlife

 

Duties

  • Under the supervision of experienced professionals, the individual will undergo training in departmental procedures. Duties will vary depending on the position. 

 

Qualifications

 

Priority will be given to applicants who are:

  • Current students or recent graduates from an undergraduate or graduate program in their desired field.

OR

  • Military personnel interested in pursuing a civilian career in desired field after the military.

OR

  • Pursuing a career change with relevant personal or professional experience.

Desirable (but not required):

  • Interest in fish and wildlife, and a desire to understand, protect, and restore fish, wildlife, and their habitats. 
  • Ability to take interest in and understand others’ perspectives; easily recognize when others have important information, perspectives, or ideas; demonstrate appropriate assertiveness; and be committed to the service of the public, mission, and team. 
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions (for certain positions).
  • Prior experience in fieldwork, research, or volunteer work related to conservation is a plus.
