Salary: $43,052 to $49,251 annually depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Nature & Purpose of the Position

The Green Stormwater Project Manager position will primarily be designing residential green stormwater projects and working with cooperators (residents, businesses, institutions, etc.) to install your design. The Green Stormwater Project Manager will also be managing contractors and/or crews in building projects.  Interest in our programming is growing and this is a new position to meet this demand.  Ideal candidates will be self-starters with a creative design sensibility. We are looking for people with a proactive communication style, an eagerness to learn, and the desire to progress in their career. Responsibilities will be diverse as Pierce Conservation District adapts programming to stay relevant to the communities we serve.  

The Green Stormwater Project Manager must approach their work with a community-first ethic, as we see our cooperators as people we are in relationship with as we co-design projects with them.  We are looking for a professional who can work cooperatively and professionally with partners and members of the public; be physically able to negotiate all types of terrain and weather conditions; and be self-directed and follow through on assignments. To be successful in this role one must be able to coordinate several projects in different stages of the project lifecycle and be willing to work both traditional and community hours.

Green Stormwater Project Manager Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Green Stormwater Project Manager is to coordinate residential green stormwater landscape projects from initial client interactions through project design and then into project completion, assisting cooperators in installing projects themselves and managing contractors and/or crews.  This design-build position must have strong project management skills with attention to detail across multiple projects at once.   The essential duties and responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Establish, build upon, and maintain positive client relationships throughout projects
  • Collect site information such as measurements, drainage, sun exposure, access, and utilities
  • Prepare green stormwater landscape plans and plant recommendations for cooperator approval
  • Hire and project manage contractor or crew to install green stormwater projects as needed
  • Prepare budgets and schedules for each project or for a collection of projects
  • Oversee establishment of green stormwater projects on public properties
  • Promoting services through community outreach efforts, presentations, workshops, etc.
  • Create resources/tips sheets to help cooperators install their own projects
  • Other job functions as assigned

Qualifications

The Green Stormwater Project Manager must have training or experience with designing environmentally related projects, is detailed oriented, is a strategic thinker, and thrives working with clients. The Green Stormwater Project Manager works well, both in a team environment and independently.  Additionally, the Green Stormwater Project Manager has:

  • Either a bachelor’s degree in landscape design, natural resource management, environmental science, or related field, or three years working experience in related field
  • Ability to understand client/community needs and communicate ideas 
  • Ability to efficiently develop and/or edit scaled site and landscape plans
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Office 365 suite of software programs
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work nights and weekends
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license

  • Knowledge of native, pollinator, and climate-adapted vegetation for the PNW

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

The Green Stormwater Project Manager will work in the office and in the outdoor environment in all weather conditions. They will travel to a variety of locations to conduct work and may be exposed to typical hazards encountered at such work sites.  Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs. This is a full-time position consisting of 40 hours/week.  The position will require some work on Saturdays or before-after regularly scheduled work hours.

Licenses, Certificates & Other Requirements

A valid Washington State driver’s license at time of appointment is required with maintenance thereafter, or evidence of equivalent mobility.
