Installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing interior and exterior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches and controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, distribution and instrument panels, buzzers, and bell circuits.

You will inspect electric systems and equipment to identify failures or loss of efficiency, including detecting and correcting faulty or worn parts.

Duties

Perform Electrical Work: 

  • Independently functions to perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair work on low voltage electrical equipment and systems of 600 volts or less. 
  • Install, adjust, maintain, modify, and repair electric motors, equipment, and instruments such as pumps (up to 300 horsepower), fans, metering devices, power tools, motors, and generators.
  • Troubleshoot and repair motor control circuits-high and low voltage.   
  • Inspect electrical systems – requires checking wires, poles, transformers and keeping lines cleared of tree limbs and brush.  
  • Perform electrical testing including voltage, amperage, and meg-ohm for assessing electrical efficiency and motor degradation.
  • Schedule and coordinate dates for arrival of supplies and equipment.  

Project Administration: 

  • Prepare cost tracking reports, develop a schedule of maintenance activities based on work orders received from customers, and determine materials, equipment, and work force needs for each assignment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Duties are performed at construction sites on hatchery and wildlife areas and occasionally in a fabrication shop – will work on rough terrain such as riverbanks, slippery slopes, confined spaces, and will drive in all weather conditions.  
    • Expected to bend, stoop, squat, twist, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds repetitively when loading and unloading trucks or moving materials around at the project site.         
    • Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
    • Some tasks completed in an office setting – will involve working at a desk on a computer for long periods of time. 
  • Schedule:
    • Typically, Monday – Thursday 6:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
    • Overtime work as needed – will include evenings, weekend work and overnight stays.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Travel is required 60-80% of the time depending on the season. 
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Electrical test equipment including Volt-ohm meter, megger, phase rotation meter, ammeter, pipe benders and threaders, sawzall, and band saw, drill motors, impact drives, roto hammers, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, hammer, hacksaw, knockout punch, runs platform, scissors and telescopic lifts and mini excavators.
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Frequent interactions occur between Federal, Local, Inter-Agency, and Intra-Agency customers and vendors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four (4) years of electrical trade experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems, generators, and industrial motor and control circuits.  

AND 

  • Possession of Journey Level Electrical Certificate of Competency (EL01) issued by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. 

Knowledge of: 

  • Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of electrical trade. 
  • Electrical codes and safety precautions.
  • Connecting and troubleshooting motor controls of all types – includes electro-magnetic starters, soft starts, and variable frequency drives (VFD). 

Ability to: 

  • Work from blueprints, plans, sketches, schematics, and varying diagrams.
  • Estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs. 
  • Use hand and power tools. 
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair simple limited energy systems such as alarms, communications, and sensor loops.

License/Certifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Knowledge of:

  • Water distribution and pumping systems/principals, including motor controls, variable frequency driver (VFD) and soft-starts.
  • Programmable Logic Controllers.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
