The City of Tacoma, Environmental Services Department, is recruiting for the Appointive position of Control System Manager in the classification of Operations Manager.  We are seeking an outgoing, highly motivated person who is interested in managing and coordinating diverse and challenging control projects to join our dynamic, award-winning Environmental Services Team. The ability to solve technical problems while working with a diverse team of operations, maintenance and engineering staff will be a must for this position. The Environmental Services Operations and Maintenance Team, maintains two award winning wastewater treatment plants and 48 offsite lift stations.

Essential Duties:

  • Using control and instrumentation information, coordinate efforts with the rest of the Operations and Maintenance team to prioritize, prevent, troubleshoot and correct equipment or process issues. 
  • Develop a sustainable program to optimize system controls to provide key information to make operational decisions for the plants and pump stations to maximize equipment life cycle costs. 
  • Use asset management best practice principles to manage control, electrical and instrumentation assets using good preventative maintenance to minimize life-cycle costs.
  • Evaluate project plans purchase requests for adherence to system standards and act as a subject matter expert for control system.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs activities that pertain to control system. 
  • Trains, supervises and evaluates employees including providing work direction and guidance, with an emphasis on employee development
  • Monitors and operates facility and equipment control systems, interpreting data on operating conditions and initiating appropriate responses.
  • Implement, verify and, where necessary, develop preventive maintenance or service requests within work order system (SAP); receive and review trouble requests for service; oversee completion of work orders and updating of records; monitor or initiate action as needed to ensure timely and reliable response of personnel.
  • Supervise maintenance of facility security systems and issuance of security badges.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering or directly related field.

Minimum Experience*
5 years of experience in surface water or wastewater operations (as assigned) including 1 year prior at senior, lead and/or supervisory level.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Valid Washington State Driver’s License 
*Equivalency: Related experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
