Wilson Construction Company has an immediate opening for an Environmental Scientist/GIS Analyst based in Aurora, Oregon. Wilson’s Environmental Department specializes in environmental permitting and compliance management as it relates to the electrical utility construction industry. Our team brings expertise to construction projects in the areas of permitting, onsite inspection and monitoring, erosion and sediment control implementation, mitigation planning, restoration and revegetation, and environmental training.

The successful candidate will work on a variety of office and field tasks, including preparing environmental cost estimates, and managing environmental compliance on construction projects. Candidates must be knowledgeable with ESRI’s software products. Duties may include performing simple data analysis and creation of various maps for incorporation into plans, reports, and/or presentations. This position may include a significant portion of the time spent in the field at job sites as well. Candidate must work well in a professional and team-oriented environment. Excellent written and verbal communication, client interaction and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting field monitoring and inspecting for environmental compliance (hydrocarbon spills, erosion and sediment control, sensitive resource mitigation).
  • Developing plans to meet mitigation requirements on a given project.
  • Tracking current bids and projects.
  • Implementing erosion and stormwater controls at construction sites.
  • Estimating and managing project environmental costs.
  • Availability to travel as needed and spend extended periods of time at project locations distant from the Canby office.
  • Interaction and effective communication with all levels of Project Management staff, field superintendents, clients, and vendors.
  • Create maps and graphs, using GIS software and related equipment for distribution.
  • Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
  • Enter new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Natural Resources, Biology, GIS or another related field.
  • Work experience in a related/relevant field (storm water, geology, hydrology, biology, etc.).
  • Experience conducting and documenting field work.
  • Capable of performing strenuous fieldwork and walking long distances.
  • Requires an understanding of GIS, CADD, and database software at an entry to junior level.
  • Practical experience with ArcGIS is required.
  • Experience conducting fieldwork using the GPS, coding, and knowledge of utilizing GIS in the electrical utility construction industry is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with various levels of staff and personality types.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Must be able to work outside and travel, as necessary.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license.
