Salary: $4,696.00-$5,401.00
This is a full-time, overtime eligible position on the Olympia Campus of The Evergreen State College. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules.

Position Purpose
This position is responsible for student outreach, advising, and retention; collecting and reporting monthly, quarterly, and annual Native Pathways Program (NPP) data (student surveys, community surveys, outreach/recruitment report outs, budget reports, etc.); maintaining potential student database; organizing events for outreach, recruitment, and retention for NPP; providing students with academic planning and resources; building and maintaining relationships with college offices across campus (Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration, Marketing, Library Services, Residential and Dining Services, Academic and Career Advising, Student Activities, etc.); work with NPP Student Governance on initiatives, events, fundraising, and the annual Graduation Ceremony; building and maintaining tribal and community relationships; scheduling space and media services; scheduling appointments and maintaining the office calendar; attending college meetings as requested on behalf of NPP; promoting Native Pathways Program (NPP) mission and developing curriculum; and community outreach for the purpose of expanding NPP community, tribal, and student relations. The position assists the Director in developing innovative strategies to continue the growth, well-being, and integrity of the program.

Scope of Position
This position reports to the Native Pathways Director and works in conjunction with the Director to deliver quality services to the NPP students and faculty. NPP has sites located across western Washington and beyond that the Director and this position travel to for outreach and recruitment. Working with Indigenous groups, such as the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) and the Western Washington Native Education Consortium (WWNEC), which consists of tribal and higher education advocates and leaders, this position helps to expand the scope and delivery of NPP. This position also collaborates with Evergreen Academic Advisors, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Registration and Records to ensure our students are receiving correct information and assistance to be successful. The work of NPP is student-centered, with all curriculum, professional development, and event planning organized around student success.

Essential Functions

  • Promote program and provide program materials to current and potential students and community partners.
  • Recruit students and assist with application, financial aid, and registration processes.
  • Prepare and update program recruitment and retention plans with the Director and disseminate to college outreach/recruitment personnel.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, annual, and as needed reports on student enrollment by site, level of study, program budget information, etc.; use Banner and Excel to compile and analyze data for Director to use in planning and for presentations.
  • Advise students to ensure successful completion of their study; provide resources and referrals to services on and off campus as needed.
  • Assist program faculty with curriculum building and implementation.
  • Organize and attend outreach and community events.
  • Schedule space and media services for the program.
  • Provide career and graduate school advice to students.
  • Create program newsletter in collaboration with other Native and Indigenous programs and update website and social media.
  • Attend Curricular Area Team (CAT) and other college meetings.
  • Manage fall orientation for new students in collaboration with the Director.
  • Manage graduation event in collaboration with the Director and NPP Student Governance.
  • Track the status of students from admission to graduation.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality of all student information, following FERPA rules.
  • Coordinate the day to day operations of the program and complete administrative tasks, such as respond to inquiries, make travel arrangements, process personnel and other documents, make purchases, track spending, perform scheduling, etc.
  • May supervise student/temporary staff needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to provide academic counseling and knowledge of college/program policies for advising students.
  • Ability to develop native based curriculum.
  • Knowledge of Native and Tribal communities, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of tribal community members.
  • Skill in establishing excellent working relationships and community connections and ability to network within and be responsive to cultural needs of indigenous communities.
  • Skill in managing data and compiling a variety of reports using databases and Excel.
  • High level of organizational, planning, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent public relations and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create, organize, and maintain records and files.
  • Knowledge of admissions, financial aid, and registration processes and ability to provide resources and referrals as needed.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), relational databases (Banner), learning management system (Canvas), web content management systems, social media, etc.; ability and willingness to learn new technology as needed.
  • Ability to work in an open office environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and to place competing tasks in appropriate priority order.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends, and to assist with program activities outside normal business hours.
  • Ability to travel in and outside of the state and remain in compliance with the college’s travel policy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree completed by June 30, 2023.
  • Two years of experience working in student recruitment/outreach, advising, teaching, administration, or related field with education.
  • Two years of experience working with tribal/Indigenous communities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two years of experience working in a higher education Native program.
  • Five years of experience working in tribal/Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in curriculum development in Native/Indigenous studies area.
  • College level teaching experience.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
  • Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
  • Employees must comply with college policies related to masking and vaccination requirements, as well as Governor Inslee’s Proclamation 21-14.1, which requires employees of the college to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption prior to the first day of work.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends and travel to program site locations, outreach and recruitment events, and conferences.
