Monthly Salary: EHS – $4,120-$5,084 EHS SENIOR – $5,211-$5,752

 

JOB SUMMARY (Full position description available at Human Resources, contact info. below)

This is a permanent full-time EHS position. This position is primarily responsible for inspecting licensed food establishments and temporary food establishments which includes occasional evening and weekend work. Work is performed in both an office as well as commercial kitchens where the employee is on their feet performing inspections in hot and cold environments within a short period of time.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (any one position may not include all for the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions in the class)

 

  • Monitors regulated activities for compliance with policies and
  • Investigates complaints, generating corrective notices or penalties as needed for
  • Inspects licensed establishments and businesses for compliance in health and safety
  • Performs field sampling for water quality analysis and
  • Assists the public with permit and construction processes and questions concerning
  • May represent the department at
  • Interprets federal, state, and local regulations relating to environmental
  • Reviews applications and designs for compliance with policies and codes for plats, subdivisions, SEPA, solid waste sites, septic permits, school plans, food permits, public water systems, and building
  • Conducts inspections of new building sites, wells, existing sewage systems, public schools, public water systems, and food service establishments.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EHS: Bachelors degree, preferably in a life science, environmental health or a related field is preferred.

EHS Senior: Same as EHS, with 5 years’ experience working for an Environmental Health jurisdiction.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License with good driving record. DOL Certification for On-Site Septic is preferred and may be required if OSS duties are assigned.

Applicant Qualifications – All candidates must meet minimum requirements. Often, the most competitive applicants will possess qualifications far exceeding the required minimum. Health Insurance – Regular full-time employees and their qualifying dependents are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Some regular part-time employees may receive the same coverage. Employees may partially contribute premiums depending upon the type of coverage selected.

 

Paid Leave – Sick leave, holidays, and vacation are provided in accordance with the County policy or union contracts. Vacation accrual rates increase at regular intervals based on length of service with the County.

 

Retirement Plan – All regular Mason County employees are enrolled in the Washington State Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS, PSERS or LEOFF). The County and employees contribute jointly to the plans.
