Salary– Salary range begins at $54,779. Annual salary commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.

Based out of the Office of Sustainability and under the direction of the Sustainability Manager, the Sustainability Data Analyst, Intermediate collects and curates data for the purpose of internal and external reporting, facilitation of research, tracking progress towards our goals, and statistical analysis. The Analyst collaborates across the institution to create data collection streams and that allow NAU to report and score higher on national rating systems such as the Sustainability Tracking and Assessment Rating System (STARS), Second Nature, Princeton Review, and other certifying bodies. The Analyst also coordinates the collection and transfer of information to faculty and students conducting sustainability research at NAU as part of the Sustainable Campus Ecosystem Initiative (SCEI). As the appropriate data collection streams are established, the analyst stewards the data and maintains an archive of all relevant information.

Data Gathering, Analysis and Processing -20%

  • Performs and maintain an inventory and analysis of NAU’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions on an annual basis. Processes the data and generates material and reports for effective communication and presentation of the information.
  • Responsible for working with the online waste sensor interface to monitor, track, troubleshoot, and report NAU’s waste and recycling generation.

Sustainability Efforts – 30%

  • Works closely with the Sustainability Manager to generate a comprehensive tracking system and mitigation plan as part of NAU’s scope 3 plan.
  • Works closely with the Sustainability Manager to collaborates across the institution to develop data collection streams and methodologies to facilitate more complete and accurate STARS report for NAU. This information will also be shared with the Princeton Review for sustainability in higher education institutions.
  • Assists with the maintenance of department programming and systems by providing consultation, serving as support staff when needed, and contributing to operations as assigned.

Data Organization and Reporting – 30%

  • Organizes, stewards, and manages a sustainability archive for NAU to maintain continuity and institutional memory. This archive will include data, past reports, and projects in a single organized location.
  • Supports outreach efforts to internal (Green NAU) and external stakeholders regarding general sustainability information including waste reduction, GHG reduction and overall sustainability progress.
  • Writes reports describing findings, recommendations, and overall environmental impacts. Identifies areas for improvement, develops recommendations.

Department Representative and Liaison – 15%

  • Acts as the point person interacting with faculty and staff requesting information for sustainability related research projects as part of SCEI.
  • Maintains a list of the projects and their outcomes.
  • Interface with the NAU Utilities Department and ITS to provide support in developing a public facing utilities and sustainability dashboard.
  • May represent NAU at local and regional events and serve on sustainable committees within the university, including the NAU Green Fund, Environmental Caucus, Green Jacks, ASNAU, and CoCoSuS.
  • Presents information to internal and external audiences.

Other duties as assigned – 5%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in sustainability, business administration, finance, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of data analysis and reporting experience
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

  • Intermediate knowledge of routine data and reporting tools and processes, such as databases, spreadsheets, and software applications.
  • Knowledge of data reporting in higher education.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of sustainability concepts, greenhouse gas reporting protocols, and data, and information management.
  • Experience working with energy and/or sustainability metrics.
  • Familiarity with the AASHE STARS reporting system and its different sections.
  • Knowledge in various data collection and assessment methodologies.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Skill in preparing data reports and summaries.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Strong skills in MS Excel, Access, and Word to combine and analyze large amounts of data from various sources and generate reports and graphics.
  • Skill in analyzing and summarizing data gleaned from a variety of sources and preparing benchmark reports.
  • Experience and skill in researching and supporting the implementation of sustainability related research and projects.
