Salary– $63,216.00 – $85,020.00 Annually

Responsibilities:

  • Creating a variety of publications, graphics, and figures using professional design and layout software.
  • Technical and copyediting of text written by Survey authors, including providing constructive feedback on style and content.
  • Generating and editing new content for our website and blog.
  • Effective time management and ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and a positive, diligent work ethic.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a desire to learn new skills.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or one of the specific geologic disciplines
  • Two years of experience editing and producing publications
  • Demonstrated ability in technical editing
  • Demonstrated competence in page layout and graphic design
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite or similar programs
  • Knowledge of GIS software and experience designing GIS map documents
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively
  • Ability to provide and accept constructive feedback

Conditions of Employment:

  • Employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. This position is based in an office/fieldwork setting and requires in-person attendance/interactions with no option for full-time telework. Desired Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in geology or one of the specific geologic disciplines
  • Geology license
  • Experience with web design and maintenance
  • Familiarity with Washington State geography and geology
  • Familiarity with social media
  • Working knowledge of publication standards for geologic maps and reports and other types of publications
  • Photography and illustration skills
  • Training or hands-on experience in publications, journalism/PR, art, graphics, form design, or display design
  • Experience designing, maintaining, and editing spatial databases, and metadata
  • Experience in successful project management
