Salary– $80,064.00 – $107,676.00 Annually

Responsibilities:

  • Design, development and management of GIS systems, geodatabases, and automated geoprocesses. This position creates specialized Python-based geoprocessing scripts, methodologies and procedures to analyze, implement, and automate complex GIS processes involving raster, vector, and tabular datasets for mission critical decisions relating to State Uplands management.
  • Design, development and support automated reporting systems. This position designs, develops, and maintains data reporting, data visualization systems, and cartographic layouts that support internal agency staff/managers as well as external stakeholder groups.
  • Design, development, and support of geoprocessing scripts to automate vector, raster, and tabular processes using industry standard software and programming languages. This position plans, implements, and delivers specialized Python-based methodologies, and procedures to analyze and summarize geospatial and tabular data for mission-critical management decisions related to the operation of the State Lands divisions.
  • Design and development of coordinated trainings and recommendations to management in the use of desktop, mobile, and web technology. This position looks for opportunities to integrate GIS and spatial planning into strategic and tactical forest land management planning.
  • Maintenance of active communication with field operations staff concerning developed applications and data systems including periodic site visits to region offices located throughout the state.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in Information Technology, Computer Science or Natural Resource Sciences.
  • Two years of demonstrated proficiency in the use of ESRI ArcGIS software, Geodatabases, Python and SQL.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in another programming language or relevant technology (R, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C++, etc).
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication (verbal and writing), and customer service skills.

Conditions of Employment:

  • 90 % of the work is conducted in the office and 5-10 % of the time will be spent traveling Statewide for meetings and field tours. No contact with hazardous chemicals.
  • The position requires travel about 5-10 % of the time for field visits and to attend meetings.
  • Employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. This position is based in an office/fieldwork setting and requires in-person attendance/interactions with no option for full-time telework. Desired Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of DNR forest management principles (e.g. inventory, silviculture, timber sale, and forest land planning).
  • Experience with LiDAR technology and datasets.
  • Master degree in Natural Sciences (Geography, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, etc.) or Information Technology with an emphasis in GIS.
