Salary– $80,064.00 – $107,676.00 Annually

Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, implementing and maintaining custom mobile data storage systems.  
  • Create efficient, normalized data schema for forest inventory plots, silvicultural surveys, and pre-harvest cruises, utilizing SQL scripts and knowledge to achieve goals.
  • Adapt data schema based on appropriate data types, relational structure, integrity constraints and client feedback.
  • Create software modules for data collection and processing applications in JavaScript or other languages. Test and update based on performance and system requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a custom data management backend system for mobile data consumption
  • Develop new data reports including spatial layer updates, R Markdown code, and HTML/JavaScript code.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrable proficiency in the following computer languages: R, Python, JavaScript, SQL.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in designing and implementing database schema.
  • Demonstrable proficiency with geospatial data.
  • Experience with a wide range of data formats (e.g., relational databases, Arc Info files, dbf, Access databases).
  • A Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience in Information Technology, Forestry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, GIS, Geography, or related field with an emphasis on computation and quantitative skills.
  • Professional working knowledge of environmental sampling and data gathering, e.g. forest mensuration.

Conditions of Employment:

  • A valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.
  • Work is conducted in an office setting and field setting. Field hazards include uneven terrain, obstacles including large down wood, steep slopes, deep brush, hot and cold temperatures
  • The position requires travel about 5-10 % of the time for field visits and to attend meetings.
  • Employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. This position is based in an office/fieldwork setting and requires in-person attendance/interactions with no option for full-time telework. Desired Qualifications: 

  • Graduate degree in natural resources or a closely related field and at least two college-level courses in statistics.
  • Experience working with LiDAR and other remote sensing technologies.
  • Experience managing field workers.
