Salary– $65,928.00 – $88,644.00 Annually

Responsibilities:
Project coordination, plan and adaptive management process development and implementation, responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with AQR Division staff (HSIL Marine Vegetation IS Lead, Science leads, and Science Advisor), and liaise with Executive Policy and External Affairs staff, to design and implement the collaborative Plan development process
  • Provide guidance on collaborative governance principles and ensure process is inclusive, transparent, and equitable.
  • Administer contracts or agreements supporting the collaborative planning process and outreach.

Build and maintain effective relationships with Plan partners and implementers, responsibilities include:

  • Engage AQR staff throughout Plan development and adaptive management process
  • Actively participate in relevant collaborative forums and working groups related to kelp and eelgrass habitat conservation and restoration
  • Establish new and identify existing relationships with stakeholders and communities who have a vested interest in the kelp and eelgrass conservation plan, including tribal communities, local governments, recreational users, and the shellfish industry.

Develop communication and outreach materials, including online content and presentations, responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with Executive Policy staff to develop a public involvement/communication plan that identifies the public involvement and communication strategies and provides opportunities for the public to review and ask questions about the Plan.
  • Create storymaps or other online content to communicate about the Plan development process and adaptive management.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resource or environmental science, natural resource or environmental planning, or public administration or public policy with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field (note: four years of experience in the above fields may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree).
    AND
    At least three years of professional experience in natural resource or environmental science, natural resource or environmental planning, or public administration or environmental policy.
  • Experience leading and facilitating an interdisciplinary team or work groups to achieve desired and productive outcomes.
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to present complex or controversial information in a way that is understandable and non-confrontational.
  • Ability to manage multiple work assignments and priorities on varied time scales.
  • Strong organization and time management skills to effectively prioritize workload and maximize efficiency.
  • Ability to seek and act on opportunities to improve, streamline, and re-invent work processes.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Travel is required (frequency will be assessed as pandemic and virtual alternatives evolve), and is typically local or regional (western Washington), to meet with partners, conduct business, or attend or provide training.
  • Employees of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. This position is based in an office/fieldwork setting and requires in-person attendance/interactions with no option for full-time telework. Desired Qualifications: 

  • A Master’s degree in natural resource or environmental science, natural resource or environmental planning, or public administration or public policy with an environmental emphasis, or closely related field (two years of professional experience in the above fields may substitute for a Master’s degree, if a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is also obtained).
    AND
    an additional three years of experience in these areas (or one year of experience as an Environmental Planner 3).
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, to build rapport and partner with local, state, and federal governmental agencies, tribes, and the public regarding issues pertaining to habitat protection and restoration.
  • Ability to apply negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of the Puget Sound Action Agenda and Puget Sound recovery goals.
  • Knowledge of natural resource laws, policies, and programs and how these affect and/or enable fish, wildlife, and habitat conservation in Washington State, and the ability to interpret and apply them in order to achieve expected results.
  • Experience applying knowledge of Washington fish and wildlife biology, habitat science, and ecology to anticipate fish, wildlife, and habitat needs, potential impacts, and likely remedies.
  • Experience with spatial data analysis and mapping systems (GIS).
