To support our mission, we are seeking an Outreach Intern to join our team in New Orleans, LA. The Outreach Intern will help advance the goals of NWF’s Mississippi River Delta (MRD) Restoration Program in Louisiana. Through this program, NWF works in coalition with national and regional partners to advocate for bold state and federal action on large-scale restoration projects that will restore coastal Louisiana’s deteriorating wetlands and, in the process, protect people, wildlife, and jobs. The MRD program works to secure and protect funding for coastal restoration, educate and engage citizens across the coast on Louisiana’s land-loss crisis, and give them the tools needed to adapt to the changing landscape. The Outreach Intern will work out of our New Orleans Office, in a coalition setting, with team members from multiple organizations, to support outreach and engagement activities.

This is a great opportunity to work with coastal communities, coastal scientists, policy makers and a network of environmental NGOs to help Louisiana’s people, wildlife and economy adapt and thrive in face of climate change.

In this role you will:

• Help plan outreach committee meetings and calls, arrange logistics and take notes
• Attend public meetings, outreach events and field trips as needed, assisting in their planning, execution and follow up
• Create and post social media content, take photos and videos at events and field trips
• Create, edit and upload recipes and other content, such as blog posts and videos, for the Coastal Community Cookbook
• Assist the Outreach Manager on other projects as requested

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and to work well in a collaborative environment
• Experience in organizing successful meetings and events
• Experience with WordPress, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Google Docs, Zoom and Canva
• Effective written and oral communication skills, good copy-editing skills preferred

Skills and qualifications desired but not required:

• Experience and knowledge of Louisiana’s coastal issues
• Familiarity with Louisiana coastal communities
• Good graphic design skills
• Demonstrated competency or proficiency in the application of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice principles
• Ability to lift at least 25lbs

Compensation:

This position pays $17.00 an hour with paid holidays. We anticipate up to 350 hours of work for the summer of 2022. We expect this to average three days a week for up to 12 weeks plus extra time around our Committee Retreat in Mid-July. Timing is somewhat flexible from June – September to allow for personal summer travel.

This is a paid short-term internship opportunity with the National Wildlife Federation. NWF is happy to work with the applicant to obtain relevant credit(s) through college/university programming, such as directed independent study (DIS), internship credit hours, etc. Applicant should indicate if they intend to pursue this in application letter. The work schedule is flexible to accommodate your class schedule.
