Job Description and Duties

This position will be directly involved with promoting and furthering the CDFW’s priority of enhancing and safeguarding its unique biodiversity. The successful candidate will have many opportunities to convey their passion for protecting natural resources while developing and implementing measures that will have lasting and long-term effects on conservation of at-risk and sensitive species of plants and animals and their habitats.

Under the direction of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), and as a member of the CDFW’s Bay Delta Region Habitat Conservation Program, the incumbent will independently identify problems, develop courses of action, and perform work including acting as a consultant to CDFW management and technical staff, and other agency staff regarding compliance with the California Endangered Species Act (CESA) and Fish and Game Code sections 2080 and 1600, et seq. The incumbent will assess potential impacts of proposed projects, as well as the effectiveness and performance of protective measures in the context of Incidental Take Permits, Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA) Agreements, mitigation banking, planning and implementation of large scale and complex projects in the Legal Delta within Region 3, and Contra Costa County.

Working Conditions

Upon approval at the time of hire, this position may be headquartered at one of a number of office locations or be provided flexible hoteling space at the following: Regional Headquarters in Fairfield, CA, the Napa field office in Napa, CA, or the Stockton field office in Stockton, CA.

This position is currently teleworking due to Emergency Telework. Once Emergency Telework ends, this position may be eligible for hybrid telework.  Hybrid telework will be dependent on operational need.

Work on a computer for prolonged periods and operate office equipment (computers, copies/scanners, fax machines, telephones, etc.). Attend frequent site visits and meetings away from office. Field work is completed year-round and may be required in sometimes remote locations, rugged terrain, and/or adverse weather conditions.  Work may be physically demanding for short periods of time.  Must be able to operate a motor vehicle (with and without four-wheel drive [4WD]) and be prepared to travel using a State vehicle.
