Salary- $2,738.00 – $3,535.00 Monthly

Our Invasive Species Technician, 

  • Implements Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles to manage invasive vegetation using pesticides, planting of competing vegetation, spray equipment and mowing/digging equipment.
  • Based on gathered data and field experience, recommends changes to improve outcomes.
  • Operates and performs maintenance and repair on airboats, marshmasters, trailers, trucks, pumps, and other power equipment.
  • Gathers pre- and post-treatment data on vegetation, weeds and treatment methods using apps, forms, cameras, and notebooks for later analysis.
  • Represents the agency on a site heading and training work crews on equipment and restoration projects, as well as being the liaison when working with other agencies.
  • Participates in other projects and supports other programs when needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    1. Intertidal regions of Washington and in remote fields approximately 75% of the time. Outdoors and in all inclement weather.
    2. Walk, bend, stoop, and carry or move up to 40 pounds (backpack of gear, moving channel crossings, herbicide boxes, and water tanks) over difficult terrain, including slippery rocks, steep banks, and mud.
    3. Load and transport gear.
    4. Work with pesticides.
  • Schedule:
    1. Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week.
    2. Start times are set by the best available tides and may require early morning starts.
    3. Some mandatory overtime may be required.
  • Travel Requirements:
    1. Occasional weekend and overnight travel.
    2. Occasional overnight travel may be up to 5 days in a row.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    1. Small mechanical equipment (brush cutters), chemical application equipment.
    2. Trucks, swamp buggies, airboats, and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Customer Interactions:
    1. Interaction with other agencies and the public will occur regularly to explain weed control work to the public.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

College level work in the field of fish, wildlife, or habitat management, agriculture, forestry, or a natural resource science may substitute year-for-year for experience.

OR

  • Three (3) years of experience as a Natural Resource Worker or equivalent.
    1. (Natural Resource Worker – Definition: Under close supervision and as a member of an organized crew, performs unskilled forest, agriculture, and/or aquatic land management labor.)

License:

  • Valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Experience with and/or understanding of:

  • Boats and amphibious tractors.
  • Marine environment and biology/botany.
  • Field work.
  • Herbicide application.
  • Basic mechanical/small engine repair.
  • Handheld GPS and other position collecting devices.
  • Developing positive, productive, respectful working relationships with coworkers and collaborators.
  • Leading small work crews.
