Salary– $73,848.00 – $96,888.00 Annually

Duties

Our Columbia River Data Developer,

Develops and maintains WDFW Columbia River web and mobile applications and automated data transfers to/from external systems, 

  • Develop web and mobile applications backed by enterprise databases.
  • Develop and maintain Traps, Weirs and Surveys (TWS) System and integrate with other systems in enterprise PostgreSQL and MongoDB datasets.
  • Consult and coordinate with other WDFW staff members across the Columbia Basin to migrate legacy data into PostgreSQL and MongoDB datasets.
  • Integrate new technology into the data flow of Columbia Basin projects to improve the overall efficiency and empower internal and external data consumers.
  • Develop web interfaces and services using frameworks such as Angular.
  • Develop backend web application servers and RESTful APIs (Application Program Interface) using Express and Node in Linux and Windows server environments using Nginx and Apache.
  • Develop object relations maps.
  • Troubleshoot, log, and fix issues with applications behavior and logic.
  • Develop native mobile applications using modern mobile frameworks like Swift and Objective C or others
  • Develop efficient, persistent, and secure mobile back-end data models and stores.
  • Develop User interfaces and unit tests to perform automated QA/QC prior to release.
  • Refactor applications as OS (Operating System) versions and third-party libraries are updated.
  • Troubleshoot logic and fix issues with application behavior and logic.
  • Re-develop applications written in Microsoft Access/ VBA (Visual Basic) to Swift/ Objective C/ or other Flutter.

Consults, designs, and trains

  • Provide technical consultation and assistance to regional managers in the design, planning, collection storage, manipulation, retrieval, and assessment of salmonid biological data to be used in the management of resident anadromous fish.
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead the development of new complex analytical tools and applications that will be used at a regional and statewide scale.
  • Isolates application or system problems and coordinates a resolution.

Provides professional technical guidance to WDFW Columbia River and Puget Sound fish managers and/or data providers

  • Provide professional technical guidance and capacity building to WDFW Columbia River fish managers.
  • Work with regional fish management staff to increase their efficiency in calculating run-reconstruction and forecasts by more closely aligning analysis and raw sources.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • The duty station for this position is in Ridgefield, Washington.
  • Schedule:
    • Typically, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, or 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Occasional travel occurs to WDFW regional offices or other agency locations for meetings or other work – 10% or less time is spent traveling.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Wide ranging data software including Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon Web Service, Microsoft Access, PostgreSQL, R, Python, Visual Basic, JavaScript, and ArcGIS.
    • Desktop and tablet computers, and fishery-specific peripheral devices such as Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag and Coded Wire Tag (CWT) scanners.
  • Customer Relations:
    • Customers include both internal and external users.
    • Frequent contact with other fisheries agency personnel and user groups to exchange and collect information is also required.
    • The purpose of contacts is to ensure the project goals are being met, and that scientifically correct methods of collecting, processing, and summarizing of biological data collected are conducted.
