Salary- $72,276.00 – $103,255.00 Annually

The protection of aquatic life is a vital responsibility that WDFW has been entrusted with. In this role the Compliance Division Manager builds and strengthens partnerships which enhance and further the protection of fish and shellfish resources.

The Compliance Division Manager reports to the Habitat Program Director and is responsible for all division operations. The Division Manager will oversee continued development and implementation of a new statewide administrative (civil) compliance program. 

In this role you will develop long-term strategic planning for the Division and guide WDFW’s engagement in regional or statewide regulatory forums with acquired experience in the unique attributes of the regulatory framework.

Duties

Our Compliance Division Manager,

Will plan, lead, organize, and control the work performed by the Compliance Division. 
Assure appropriate and optimum use of the department’s resources and enhance the effectiveness of employees through timely appraisal and professional development opportunities. Support effective communications throughout the department. Maintain the highest standards of personal/professional and ethical conduct and support the State’s goals for a diverse workforce.

Manage the Habitat Program’s Compliance Division.
 Implement the fish, wildlife, and habitat protection priorities of the department and provide guidance on policy and planning to other planning and technical staff. Facilitate resolution of pertinent management issues arising from compliance actions which are complex or sensitive, involve multiple agencies, programs, and deal with major regulatory issues facing the department.

Tasks include: 

  • Provide training and technical assistance to employees and the department’s regional biologists using technical and regulatory expertise and experience to assure consistent conservation of fish, wildlife, habitat, and superior customer service.
  • Coordinate with Compliance Division employees, Regional Habitat Program Managers (RHPMs), Regional Directors and the Habitat Deputy Director regarding compliance priorities to ensure statewide effectiveness of the division.
  • Conduct or oversee development of, or updates to, Compliance Division publications (such as the WDFW Compliance Inspector Manual), so employees and the public understand how the department will respond to incidents of non-compliance with state laws.
  • Conduct and operationalize strategic and tactical planning related to the Division.
  • Provide excellent supervision to Compliance Division employees, including clear performance expectations and professional development opportunities, to contribute to job satisfaction and recruit and retain quality employees.
  • Manage financial resources, including grants, using department budget and contract applications and project management skills to meet contract requirements (including reporting) and successfully deliver energy related products and services.
  • Reach out to the public using excellent communication skills, customer feedback, and a variety of forums to increase understanding of and reliance on WDFW enforcement data, tools, and technical assistance to secure fish, wildlife, and habitat.
  • Represent the needs of fish, wildlife, and habitats in negotiated settlements.
