Salary- $16.46 – $21.27 Hourly

Duties

Our Scientific Technicians,

  • Conduct angler creel interviews, provides feedback about sampling protocols, and accurately records data.
  • Observe, count, and accurately identify all salmon and marine fish species.
  • Sample all Chinook and Coho salmon with electronic CWT detection devices.
  • Classify, sort, and enumerate marked (adipose fin-clipped) and unmarked salmon by CWT status.
  • Remove snouts from Chinook and Coho salmon with CWTs, to assess stock specific impacts for fisheries modeling.
  • Conduct error checks of sampling data.
  • Provide sport fishing regulatory information to the public.
  • Liaison to regional supervisor on fishery violations observed in the field – provides written reports on violations and may be called to give testimony informally or in court.
  • May be responsible for operation and maintenance of an agency vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work Setting, including hazards:    

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors – fieldwork can occur in adverse weather and sea conditions.
  • Loud noises, boating for angler interviews, carrying, kneeling, lifting of fish and equipment (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), transporting agency staff and equipment in agency vehicles.
