DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

  • Performs routine scientific research tasks requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Designs, performs, and/or oversees experiments, data collection, and simulations to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
  • Uses prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment.
  • Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • In some circumstances, may participate in grant proposal submissions on federal funding applications.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:   PhD in relevant scientific field.

EXPERIENCE: Required: A minimum of 2 years’ relevant scientific research experience which may include postdoctoral research.

Preferred: Research in the area of bioenergy and bioproducts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Analytical and logical reasoning, research acumen and strong verbal and written communication skills are vital. Continued professional learning and undertaking networking and collaborative activities are crucial for developing recognition within the field. Evidence of consistent use of good judgment, discretion, and tactful communication. Energy and enthusiasm for expressing the value of diverse cultures, fostering empathy, and improving organizations in the areas of access and representation. Knowledge and experience with office software and ability to learn custom systems. Ability to handle multiple priorities without direct supervision. Excellent oral and written communications skills with a record of publications in peer reviewed journals.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Work is mainly performed in a general laboratory and office settings.

APPOINTMENT STATUS: Full-time academic professional, grant-supported appointment renewable annually pending continued funding and satisfactory progress within the position. Qualified individuals will be eligible to receive vacation, sick, and personal leave; retirement through the State Universities Retirement System; and group health, dental, vision and life insurance.
