Salary- $41,352.00 – $55,524.00 Annually

Responsibilities:
This position reports to a Kulshan Assistant Fire Unit Manager (WFOT3), and works under the guidance of state regulations, agency policies and procedures, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and agency strategic plans. The position will assist with the, coordination and training of Kulshan Unit Fire Resources. In addition to regulatory work, the position processes and issues Burn Permits, and participates in Fire Suppression and Training within the Kulshan Unit and across Washington State.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Four years of experience working in wildland fire suppression.
  • Experience working in a wildland fire environment at the NWCG Single Resource Boss and ICT5 Qualifications level and maintains currency of that qualification.
  • Minimum of two years successful supervisory experience, which may include fire line supervision.
  • Experience working in wildland fire prevention/education programs.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wildland fire suppression tactics.
  • Experience successfully implementing management goals, strategies, and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an instructor for NWCG wildland fire courses.
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
  • The incumbent in this position is required to travel.
  • A valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates may be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.

  • A Bachelor or Associates Degree with 2 years professional experience in a Natural Resource field.
  • Two years of professional forestry experience.
  • Knowledge of employment rules and regulations as they apply to permanent, seasonal career, and seasonal employees.
  • Knowledge of the Incident Command System.
  • Experience in forest fire protection regulatory programs.
  • Proven ability in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Word, and Power Point.
  • Desired competencies include knowledge of general forest management.
  • Experience writing burning permits for large forest industry landowners.
