Salary- $85,000.00 – $95,000.00 Annually

Duties

Initial topics for the Outdoor Education and Training Program Manager may include:

  • Assemble and host an advisory group of stakeholders and partner organizations to inform the development of the program’s goals, actions and outcomes.
  • Ensure robust and meaningful community engagement occurs to align the program’s work with the agency’s equity and environmental justice goals.
  • Develop and carry out a strategic plan for the education and training program.
  • Conduct an internal audit of education and training responsibilities and opportunities within existing DNR programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners.
  • Continually identify new education and training opportunities and partnerships.
  • Organize, prioritize, and execute DNR’s work with education and training partners
    • Coordinate staff to conduct field trips, classroom visits, career fairs, etc.
    • Prepare DNR staff to participate in and contribute toward education and training outcomes.
  • Develop career/technical credentials alongside industry partners and the Washington Department of Commerce.
  • Seek opportunities to expand capacity through grants, internships, apprenticeships and partnerships.
  • Achieve and maintain buy-in from DNR staff and managers, partners, and participants.

As Outdoor Education and Training Program Manager, your colleagues will entrust you to:

  • Working with internal and external partners to implement the education goals within Forest Health and Reduction of Wildfire Dangers bill (2SHB 1168).
  • Manage a variety of outdoor education and training projects from inception to completion.
  • Bring creative thinking to the development and implementation of long-range strategic initiatives and issues, and translate long-range goals into short-term actionable projects.
  • Provide internal and external communications to accomplish agency program objectives. Write proposals, memos, talking points, grants and other communications materials.
  • Incorporate key information about external organizations, interests, and issues into the on-going development and implementation of strategic program priorities.
  • In partnership with Legislative Affairs team, write, justify, and support agency request legislation.

Desirable Qualifications:

  •  A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education, environmental science, forestry, biology, life sciences, rangeland management, agricultural studies, conservation or another field relevant to the position’s responsibilities OR four years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
