The Department of Chemistry has an outstanding for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 2.
This Research Scientist II will work with Professor Dustin Maly to independently evaluate, select, and apply scientific techniques and procedures to conduct research at the chemical biology interface. The incumbent will lead efforts to characterize selective inhibitors of protein kinase complexes and develop new methods for monitoring intracellular target engagement. Duties include performing standard molecular biology techniques, culturing and performing assays in mammalian cell lines, designing and synthesizing probe molecules, performing quantitative mass spectrometry, and analyzing data. The incumbent will rely on their education and applicable experience to exercise judgment and make adaptations and modifications to procedures or techniques to achieve optimal scientific data or results.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Study Design, Implementation, Analysis and Reporting (60%)

  • Perform standard microorganism and human cell line culture, molecular biology techniques, and biochemistry techniques. Analyze data and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Conducting proteomic analyses using quantitative mass spectrometry.
  • Conduct experiments in the laboratory: take measurements and record observations, and collect, compile, process, and interpret data. Independently evaluate, troubleshoot, and apply ideas and standardized scientific procedures and techniques, consulting with Professor Maly concerning unusual problems and developments.
  • Write scientific manuscripts that describe experimental results.
